General

Pong Break is a mix of the retro games Pong and Break Out. Each player is given a paddle, which they can control its vertical position. At the start of each round a wall of blocks is placed behind each player's paddle and a ball is generated in the center. Some of the blocks have a picture of the ball on them, and when they are hit will generate an additional ball in the center of the screen. By passing a ball to a player's wall, the opposing player scores and the ball is removed from play. A round continues until all balls have removed in such a manner. The first player to 25 at the end of a round wins.

The controls for each player's paddle is displayed at the first screen. Additionally a simple AI with varying levels of difficulty has been provided that can play instead of a player. This is selected at the first screen and the game will have to be restarted to reselect it.

The escape key may be used to prematurely end a round or exit the game if no round is currently being played.

History

This game was originally created for the October 2007 GameJam competition at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute by Michael "Z" Goddard, Mak Mendelson, and Franklin Pride. It won first place among eight entrys.

Since then, Michael "Z" Goddard added the AI and polished it a little.

Repository

I use the Bazaar VCS for my personal projects, which includes Pong Break. Feel free to branch the repository from

I have completed most of what I want to do with this project, there will be little development on this from now on.
